Each month the UT Martin Alumni Association highlights an alumnus who has soared to great heights and made significant contributions in their career post-graduation. However, this month, in conjunction with our Met in Martin Dinner, we’re celebrating two Skyhawk Sweethearts whose achievements inspire us all and remind us of the boundless possibilities that lie ahead!

Successful Skyhawk Sweethearts

“While Tymikia ran her way into the UT Martin Athletics Hall of Fame, she also ran right into my heart,” says Nick Glenn, reminiscing on his 1999 move-in day where he met his future wife. A chance encounter in the lobby entrance of Browning Hall led to what would become a friendship-turned-courtship. Surrounded by friends, sorority sisters, and fraternity brothers, Nick proposed to her in the Skyhawk Fieldhouse and the couple later married on October 19, 2002.

The Glenns currently reside in Olive Branch, Mississippi. They are the proud parents of three sons, Terrick, Nathanael, and Jonathan— the youngest of which will be an incoming freshman at UT Martin this fall.

While at UT Martin, Tymikia balanced her time as a student athlete with her involvement in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. She currently works as the center director of The Georgette and Cato Johnson YMCA. Tymikia serves as the 2024-2025 Alumni Council President and was inducted into the UT Martin Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

Nick’s time at UT Martin prepared him for his current career as the Regional Executive of Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence (L.E.A.D. Inc.). He served as a student worker with UT Martin Public Safety before later going on to work as a patrol officer with the Martin Police Department. His on-campus involvement included the Social Work Club in addition to Phi Beta Sigma. Since 2008, he has served as team chaplain for UTM football and enjoyed celebrating the team’s fourth conference championship in a row.

While the Glenns have so many wonderful memories of their time at UT Martin, meeting each other remains the one they cherish the most.

UT Martin helped me find my voice, find myself, and eventually find my husband.

Q&A with Nick and Tymikia Glenn

Nick: My favorite memory of UTM is meeting my wife, Tymikia Glenn, at the doors of Browning Hall on move-in day.

Tymikia: My favorite memories include homecoming weekend, playing pool in the basement of Browning Hall, being proposed to in the fieldhouse, crossing my sorority, and track meets with my team.

Nick: UTM prepared me for my career in law enforcement. I started with UTM Public Safety as a student worker and later went on to the Martin Police Department as a patrol officer.

Tymikia: Core memories were made on the campus of UT Martin along with life-long friendships. Having to navigate being a student athlete gave me tools needed to be successful today.

Nick: Take the time to connect with students outside of your regular circle of friends. This will enhance opportunities for networking later on in your career.

Tymikia: Immerse yourself in the UTM experience while in college and after graduation. There are so many wonderful opportunities in doing so. You won’t regret it!
