About the Dunagans
The UT Martin Dunagan Alumni Center was named by the UT Board of Trustees in honor of Nick and Cathy (Porter) Dunagan for exceptional service to The University of Tennessee at Martin on October 15, 2010. The Dunagans served as true partners in the role of chancellor and first lady of UT Martin.
Nick and Cathy met on the UT Martin campus and graduated in 1968. In 1973, they returned to Martin, where Nick began his service as director of development. Through the years, his many roles have included executive vice chancellor, vice chancellor for development and administration, and vice chancellor for student affairs.
Before being named UT Martin’s eighth chancellor in April 2001, he served as interim chancellor three times (1985-86, 1997-98, 2000-01) and as executive director of WestStar, the University’s regional leadership program.
Nick served the University for 34 years before his retirement in June 2007; he was named Chancellor Emeritus in September 2007. The Dunagan family is much beloved on the Martin campus and has generously supported the University for decades as members of the UT Founders Society.
