A Winning Mindset

“Your work ethic and preparation will open doors long before titles or experience do,” said Trey Warren (’17), Senior Client Executive at Microsoft, when asked what advice he’d give to current students.

As a scholarship athlete for UT Martin Skyhawks Football, Trey put this mindset into practice early on, balancing a rigorous training schedule with academic studies and additional extracurricular activities. The NCAA Division I athlete studied communications, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2017. While at UTM, he hosted the Communications Banquet, won the Sargent York trophy with the football team, and was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

“UT Martin shaped me into someone who leads with purpose and persistence,” Trey said. “The professors and community didn’t just teach me—they invested in me, challenged me, and prepared me to rise in moments that matter.”

Since graduating from UTM, Trey has earned his MBA from Clayton State University and worked as a Senior Account Executive with UPS before stepping into his current role at Microsoft in 2022. He is a Gold Club Award recipient, which recognizes those in the company’s top 1% in revenue performance and serves as Mentorship Lead for Blacks at Microsoft. Most important is his role of father to his four-month-old daughter.

“[UT Martin] taught me how to turn challenges into fuel and opportunities into momentum,” Trey noted. “I carry that foundation with me every day as I work to create impact far beyond campus.

Believe that you belong in every room you step into, even the ones that feel intimidating at first.
