An Important Initiative
Over the past three years, the UTM Black Alumni Council has raised over $50,000 to support UT Martin student scholarships. Scholarships are essential for many students to complete a higher education degree. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Zeta Lambda Chapter has pledged to help the UTM BAC in their initiatives by supporting the UTM Black Alumni Council Scholarship.
Currently, this scholarship is awarded to students who have attended the Red Carpet event, hosted by the UTM BAC. The Red Carpet event is hosted each fall for high school junior and senior students in the Memphis area. Students must meet UTM admission requirements in order to participate. The BAC then hosts a charter bus that transports the students to the UTM main campus for an extended, specialized tour where they roll out the “red carpet” and give them an outstanding UT Martin welcome.
